How is Zakat on gold calculated?

  1. Zakat is due on gold when it reaches the Nisab and a full lunar (Hijri) year has passed on it.
  2. Nisab = 85 grams of pure gold (24K). For other karats, the weight is first converted to an equivalent pure-gold weight before comparing it to the Nisab.
  3. Amount due = 2.5% of the market value of your gold on the day Zakat is paid.
